Speaker
The Honorable William B. Taylor
U.S. Institute of Peace and former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine
Overview
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 continues to cause serious destruction on many levels as the world struggles to find a resolution that will settle the conflict. Is there a path to victory in Ukraine? What are the prospects for a negotiated peace and what are the obstacles? Ambassador Taylor, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine from 2006 to 2009 and chargé d’affaires in 2019, will draw on his firsthand experience in Ukraine to discuss the current situation. The Ambassador spoke at our forum virtually just a year ago. We are delighted that he will be with us in person on this occasion.
William Taylor is Vice President, Russia and Europe, at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. In addition to serving in Ukraine, he has coordinated U.S. assistance to the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. He was the American representative to the Mideast Quartet, which facilitated Israel’s disengagement from Gaza and part of the West Bank. He also served in Baghdad as the first director of the Iraq Reconstruction Management Office and in Kabul as the coordinator of U.S. and international assistance to Afghanistan.
Ambassador Taylor is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He most recently visited Kyiv in July 2023.
