Dr. Craig Whiteside

Lt. Col., U.S. Army, Retired

Professor, National Security Affairs,
U.S. Naval War College

Dinner Lecture

Overview

Some view the costly and long wars with Islamic terrorists around the globe as a mistaken distraction. However, many observers believe the ability of violent non-state actors to execute attacks like 9-11 is only increasing. Dr. Whiteside draws on his latest book released this month, Non-state Special Operations: Capabilities and Effects, to explore how violent non-state actors continue to pose a challenge to global stability.

About Our Speaker

Dr. Craig Whiteside is a Professor of National Security Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College as part of the resident program, Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is a senior associate with NWC’s Center on Irregular Warfare and Armed Groups and a fellow at the International Centre for Counter-terrorism – The Hague’s and the George Washington University’s program on extremism. He is a co-author of “The ISIS Reader” (Hurst/Oxford-2019). He holds a doctorate in political science from Washington State University and is a former U.S. Army officer.

We are honored to present Dr. Whiteside, and look forward to his talk on one of the most pressing subjects of our time.
